On February 20-22, 2004 we had our month campout. This month it was at Camp Wakonda. As we arrived, Friday night always consists of unloading and setting up equipment, troop equipment and personal equipment. After set up was complete, we ate our cracker barrels.
Saturday morning everyone was up and making breakfast by 7:30. After everything was cleaned and put away, it was the morning flag ceremony then off on our morning hike. The hike lasted about 45 minutes to 1 hour, but it wasn't all hiking. We had four or five stops along the way and at one of those stops we found ourselves sliding down a hill throwing snow balls and just having fun. After this we had managed to lose the trail because of so much snow, but lucky for us we were able to find the trail again up the hill, but I think if you asked them about it, they all would agree that it was more like a mountain than a hill.
After the hike, we all were back in camp about 11:00 to 11:15. It was now free time and time for lunch. Our day's activity consisted of a snow shelter competition that went really well. Each patrol had a different style and method of building and each snow shelter turned out differently. The adults judged each snow shelter and the winners were the Hawk patrol. They did a great job.
After the competition was over we had a short free time and then a flag retirement ceremony. Afterwards, we ate dinner and had our evening flag ceremony. At about 8:15 we had our church service that consisted of a drama and then we went straight into our campfire. Sunday morning is always the same: wake up, eat, clean, and then tear down camp. By the time everything was put away and loaded up it was about 10:30 to 10:45. Then after everyone was gathered up for a quick tally, they were in their cars and heading back home.
