Welcome to the Troop 331 web site!  Here you will find basic information about Troop 331, its history, accomplishments, and future goals.  Our Troop Motto is “Making a Difference”.

Where We Are

Omaha, Nebraska is home to Troop 331 or more specifically, southwest Omaha in an area just west of what was formerly the village of Millard, Nebraska.  Our Charter Organization is Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church, 15005 Q Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68137.  Divine Shepard Lutheran Church is located on the South side of Q Street, just West of Millard South High School, and directly across the street from Walnut Grove Park. During construction of a new sactuary, access to troop meetings is by the staircase entrance to the gymnasium on the east side of the church.  Troop 331 is part of Soaring Eagle District in the Mid-America Council.

When We Meet

Troop 331 meets on Monday nights, from 7:00 PM until 8:15 PM at Divine Shepard Lutheran Church. The second Thursday night of each month is set aside for meetings with our Scout’s parents (Troop Committee) at 7:00 PM. The youth leaders typically meet the Monday after each weekend outing to conduct a Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meeting. For more information visit the Meetings and Events page.

History of Troop 331

Troop 331 has been serving youth for over twenty (20) years, since its initial charter in 1983. In the first twenty years, over hundred (100) scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout while members of the troop. Our annual program consists of weekly troop meetings, monthly weekend campouts, Troop Committee meetings, and Patrol Leader Council (PLC) meetings. In addition, there are three Courts of Honor, one week of summer camp, and an annual high adventure. Troop 331 or boys from its ranks have attended National and World Jamborees, backpacked at Philmont, New Mexico and the Black Hills of South Dakota, canoed the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and sailed the Coral Reef Adventure at Sea Base in teh Florida Keys. In 2005,boys from Troop 331 attended the National Jamboree as members of four troops. Plans are underway to return to Boundary Waters and Sea Base in 2006. The Troop annually sends a large contingent of scouts to Camp Cedars near Fremont, Nebraska. In recent years smaller groups of our boys have also journeyed to scout camps in South Dakota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Check out our Troop Calendar to see where we are planning to go this year.

Who We Are

The boys of Troop 331 come from various Cub Scout Packs in the local area including but not limited to Pack 331 (Ackerman Elementary School), Pack 330 (Bryan Elementary School), Pack 396 (Willowdale Elementary School) and Pack 494 (St. Stephen the Martyr Parish).  A number of our scouts transferred to Troop 331 after their families relocated to “The Good Life” in Nebraska. The majority of the boys attend Millard Public Schools but a number attend private religious schools.  Troop 331 always welcomes any Scout who desires to participate in its programs.

Troop Leadership

Troop 331 is a Boy-Run-Troop. The boys are organized into 8-10 patrols and annually elect their senior leaders and patrol leaders. Every Scout holding a leadership position is required to attend a weekend Junior Leader Training Program (JLT). The senior leaders are strongly encouraged to attend a one-week JLT program offered by the Mid-America Council – Pahuk Pride.

Adult Involvement and Training

Troop 331 has very active adult volunteers.  Troop 331 requires all of its adult leaders to complete adult leader training, most have completed the Wood Badge training program, and some have been invited to participate in training programs at Philmont Training Center in New Mexico. A number of the adult leaders have been selected as leaders or staff at National Jamborees, University of Scouting Programs, District and Council training activities and for the Mid-America Council Wood Badge program. The Scoutmaster and many of the Assistant Scoutmasters are Eagle Scouts. All parents are encouraged to become involved in the Scouting program, whether as Troop Committee Members, Troop Officers, Assistant Scoutmasters, Merit Badge Counselors, or by just coming along on Troop outings.

Mission Statement

The Boy Scouts of America is the Nation’s foremost youth program, offering character development and values-based leadership training. Troop 331 is committed to “Making A Difference” by preparing young men to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The goal of every Scout is to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 331 has seen more than its share of young men attain this goal, but when everything comes together, regardless of how long boys remain active in the program, Troop 331 makes young men better. Somewhere along the way they also learn outdoor skills, go places, do things, and have fun.
